110km Course Map 110km Finish Circuit & Elevation
The 110 kilometre SRAM Tour de Ranges cycle event starts in the bustling rural town of Clevedon, situated 25 kilometres south of Auckland City. Cyclists will commence the race outside the Clevedon Showgrounds. From there they will make their way along a flat section of Monument Road for 3.3 kilometres before they hit the first of the two major climbs.

The climb is split into two sections separated by a 500 metre plateau, allowing cyclists to find their legs. With an average gradient of 5.8%, cyclists will wind their way up the hill before casually descending into the region of Hunua. A left at White Road followed by another left onto Hunua Road will take cyclists into the Hunua Township. The following 15 kilometres is undulating to flat and will allow cyclists to take in the breathtaking scenery of the Hunua Ranges. Upon completing the long flat straights of Paparimu, cyclists will take a left along Paparimu Road climbing to a casual elevation of 150 metres.

From here cyclists will descend before taking a right onto Lyons Road and then a left onto the now redundant State Highway Two. The following five kilometre section is undulating but fast. Cyclists will then turn left onto Mangatangi Road, towards the Eastern Coast. The following five kilometres is deceptively uphill. Cyclists will take a left onto Kaiaua Road where the elevation will continue to climb steadily. This 16 kilometre section of road winds itself around the southern outskirts of the Hunua Ranges. Cyclists do not want to miss the spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf as they pass through the halfway mark of the race.

After descending into the township of Kaiaua, cyclists will take a left onto East Coast Road. The following 13 kilometre section (commonly known as the Seabird Coast) winds itself around the Hauraki Gulf Coastline. Cyclists may want to position themselves for the green jersey sprint which will be at the 70km mark, just outside the Waharau Regional Park entrance way. As soon as cyclists leave the coast they will need to negotiate a short, sharp 700 metre climb. After the long flat sections of the coast this hill will come as a surprise to most riders. The following 14 kilometre section takes cyclists along an undulating route inland, past Tapapakanga Regional Park and the turnoff to Orere Point. After 86 kilometres cyclists will begin the events designated climb – Snake Hill. Although this hill is only 920 meters long it has an average gradient of 7.4%. Interestingly, the infamous Alpe d’Huez climb in France is 13 kilometres long with an average gradient of 8.1%. Cyclists will cautiously make their way down the technical descent of Snake Hill before entering Kawakawa Bay.

A short 500 metre climb awaits riders as they leave the seaside settlement. Follows is a fast, undulating section which takes cyclists back towards the finish line in Clevedon. A left into McNicol Road, a right 3.5 kilometres later into Tourist Road, and another right 1.5 kilometres later into Monument Road will be the lead up for the final sprint to the finish line. Cyclists will have 1.9 kilometres of flats along Monument Road to position themselves for the completion of the SRAM Tour de Ranges.
30km Course Map & Elevation
The 30km SRAM Tour de Ranges event also commences from the Clevedon Showgrounds. This route is flat to undulating to cater for the more recreational rider. Cyclists will ride 1.9 kilometres down Monument Road before turning a left into Tourist Road and another left 1.5 kilometres later.
A flat section of 3.5 kilometres will take cyclists out onto Clevedon Kawakawa Road. The following 5 kilometres is flat to undulating and will take riders past the popular Clevedon Polo Grounds. At approximately the 10 kilometre point cyclists will need to make a right turn onto Ness Valley Road. Although this section will be carefully monitored by Traffic Management New Zealand, it is important riders remain vigilant to traffic as the road will not be officially closed.
Located approximately 4 kilometres down Ness Valley Road, riders will need to make a clockwise turn around the turnaround marker. Riders will then continue back towards the Clevedon Showgrounds following the same route to complete the 30km SRAM Tour de Ranges.
